Love Rules with Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty is amazing. A best selling author, former monk and host of the ‘On Purpose’ podcast. You can google but just in case you wanted a quick description of who he is, here you go. You’re welcome.

Anybody who knows me, knows how much I love podcasts, motivational speakers and finding inspiration through words, so when I found out that he was coming to Australia, I didn’t think twice about getting tickets. It was like “I have to go!” sort of thing. I’ve been a fan of his for such a long time, and listening to his podcast is a part of my everyday routine. I was actually at work when I bought tickets and honestly that became a priority as there weren’t many left, but thankfully I was able to buy tickets for my sister and I.

This was also my first time attending a show at the Iconic Sydney Opera House and that in itself was an experience, and extremely beautiful. I’ve grown up and lived in Sydney my whole life, but even now every time I see the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, it’s amazing. It reminds me of how lucky I am to be living in such a beautiful country, and plus the bridge was looking extra pretty that night.

It was a 90-minute experience where he took us (the audience) on an incredible journey of finding and letting go of love. I found it to be transformational. He speaks with so much wisdom and inspiration, and it’s such a good energy to be around. I was taking it all in and hanging onto his every word.

I was amazed at how vulnerable people were getting. It takes a lot to open up your heart, and people were opening up about what they’ve been through and how they feel; he really created a safe space for people to quite literally wear their heart on their sleeve, and it was really beautiful to watch. There were live experiments that he conducted and it was really awesome to see that interaction and just how he got the whole audience involved.

His book The 8 Rules of Love is one of my favourites. It is such a good read and I highly recommend it. There are so many lessons and life-changing experiences that he talks about that help you resonate with what he is saying. Every page has a piece of inspiration because his life is so inspiring.

One of my favorite moments is when he brought out journals, all of which had inspiring words on the front cover.

Another thing I loved about this experience, is that he always brought it back to having love for yourself. That emphasis on self-love is important, even if you’re married or in a relationship. You’re always evolving. No matter how old you are, there’s always work to be done.

Personally, I feel that I need to spend time alone in order to figure out what I need, what makes me happy, what pleases me and what I need to improve on, and then once I’ve sort of got that figured out, I can worry about getting into a relationship. I’ve always believed there’s always that self-work within yourself that needs to be done before finding that special love with someone else.

Jay has a lot of impact and he definitely got me thinking, that’s for sure.

Jay Shetty is an incredible speaker and an inspiring human being. I felt lucky just to be in his presence, and I left the show feeling not only inspired, but appreciated and worthy of love.
