Train Rides
Working that 9-5 corporate life, I’m on the train everyday and I’ve honestly found the ride to the city quite peaceful. Maybe it’s just the time I catch the train because I know that’s not always the case. There can be delays and if it’s raining, I know the possibility of trains being cancelled is at an all time high; at least that’s how I know it to be if you’re in Sydney.
These days, I am on the train at 7am to get into the city in time for my 8am start. I feel like I’m definitely in a good routine now with getting this particular train and heading into work.
What I like most about it is that it’s pretty quiet, and it’s not too packed. It’s before peak time so that’s why it’s not too busy. Everyone is doing what they do, they’re getting up and going to work, and I notice the same people getting on the train. I look around, and most people have their headphones in because that’s the kind of world we’re living in now, but everyone seems content which is nice to see.
I particularly like catching the train in the morning rather than at night when I finish work, just because it is quieter in the morning and it’s more zen, which gives me a chance to wake up and ground myself and my thoughts.
I love listening to podcasts. Sometimes I get sick of listening to music, and if you’re anything like me, listening to the same 10 songs on repeat can be a bit much and get a bit repetitive. I love listening to Jay Shetty, Diary of a CEO, Guide Me Glow podcast by Shannon Tang, and recently I started listening to Alexis Hernandez. The 40 minutes that I’m on the train is time to myself, and I love it.
I love appreciating the little things and sometimes all it takes is getting a seat on train.
One main thing that I’ve noticed is that no matter what the weather conditions are like, the train moves at the same speed. It doesn't try to speed up just because it’s absolutely pouring outside, it doesn’t compare itself or its route to other trains, it stays focused on getting to each stop safely.
Life is going to throw all sorts of things at you, but as long as you do what feels right, stay focused on what you want, and move at a tempo that works for you, you’re going to end up exactly where you are supposed to be.
